This is one of Jack Vettriano’s best-selling images and was first shown in 1994 at the Chimes at Midnight exhibition. This is one of a series of paintings from that period that Vettriano has set on beaches and which are inspired by the coastal views local to him when he was growing up on the East coast of Scotland.
